A Brief History of Sivko
Fur Incorporated
My father, Leslie Farkas, went to
college in Hungary to learn to be a
tanner. He received a Master’s degree in
chemistry for tanning. My mother, Siv,
also has two chemical engineering
degrees. My father started tanning in
Europe during World War II; he then
immigrated to Australia in 1949 where he
owned and operated a tannery for over 20
years.
In 1969, my parents came
to the United States where they
continued working in the fur industry.
In 1976, we moved to our current
location in the Canisteo valley where we
built our tannery.
I have spent my entire
life growing up and working in the fur
industry and my family’s tannery. My
father passed away in 2004. In 2005,
after completing my education, I took
over the business. My mother continues
to be a consultant and on the board of
directors. We are still a family owned
and operated business.

Our current staff of employees has
over 140 years of combined tanning
experience. Most of
them were trained by my parents. We take
great pride in our work and customer
service. Since 2007, we have grown and
expanded our facilities. We at Sivko Fur
Inc. strive to provide the best products
for you and your hunters. I firmly
believe it’s my name and family’s
reputation on the line. I look forward
to earning your business and developing
a long term relationship.
Sincerely,
Ann Farkas
